EQUIPMENT - Test Desk and The End

EQUIPMENT - Test Desk and The EndThe Dormphone equipment included a test desk from which you could access any telephone line, whether busy or not, and perform electrical tests. One of the interesting things that could be done is to flip some levers and draw dial tone using the same equipment that the user of that line would use. This allowed service personnel to place calls that used exactly the same equipment as the subscriber, allowing him to duplicate any faults that the subscriber was encountering. THE END: all of the equipment shown on these pages was removed in August 1987 (?); both dormitory and administrative offices were served thereafter by a #5 ESS owned by MIT but installed and maintained by AT&T. No students were involved.
